The Edited Landscape

A college class exploring the increasingly prominent role tourism plays in shaping how our world is perceived. Students work in groups to devise artistic “experience/tours” featuring unique slices of San Francisco’s social and architectural environment. Tours are whimsical or didactic, documentary or narrative, historically informed or fictive. One group of students conducted a tour revealed the politics of toxic waste at the Hunters Point Shipyard—not a typical tourist excursion.

The Edited Landscape was offered at the California College of the Arts from 2003-2007.
